Week 8
This week was all about Christmas! The big lead up to Christmas :) of course it's not as big in japan in fact I think half of japanese didn't realize it was Christmas and the ones that knew it was just ate chicken and cake cause that's what the do for Christmas...
A japanese Christmas.... Is never spent with family but with your girlfriend or boyfriend, you eat lots of fried chicken or kfc that you ordered at least a week ago cause kfc is always booked out for Christmas! The entire sitting area In kfc is filled nearly to the roof with boxes of chicken waiting for customers to come pick up their orders! At dinner there is always a Christmas cake which is no different to any other cake and has no special features it's just a cake eaten on Christmas.
On Christmas we asked hundreds of people "hey how was " your Christmas" and most of the responses were I don't have a girlfriend or it was a lonely Christmas haha. Or we would ask "hey what did you do for Christmas" they would always say "I ate cake" or "I ate chicken!" Weird! We went to the station and just said merry Christmas to everyone that walked past! I ended up dancing around the train station singing and dancing around people and saying merry Christmas! It was so much fun! And from doing just that people came up to me and asked me about Eikaiwa cause they had meet missionaries over a year ago or people came up to me and wanted to study the bible together?!?! It was crazy cool!
Christmas Eve we probably said merry Christmas to over 5000 people!!!! It's so much fun! Some people just start smiling very few people say it back to you but most people keep looking super depressed and keep walking not even acknowledging your existence. I swear so many japanese people are depressed they always just walk around frowning and staring at the ground and when you try and cheer them up they ignore you! So weird! And so sad!!
It's fun saying hello to girls or merry Christmas as you walk past cause they expect me not to know Japanese so they start talking to their friends and saying things like oh my gosh he is so cute, or wow love at first sight, or probably the weirdest is I want to marry him I have only heard that one once hahah, or it want to know him. Haha it's funny how much Japanese girls love foreigners! Haha if you ever need a confidence boost just go to Japan and start saying hello to people and watch their reactions haha. Or sometimes I will be standing on a train and there will be girls taking a picture of me and saying awww he is so cute I want to talk to him!!!they think they are sneaky.... Hahaha I love being able to understand people when they don't expect me to be able to haha. I think if I was allowed to dendo girls we would have at least a baptism or 5 a week! Haha all for the wrong reason but yeah haha.
On the 23rd we had the flash mob!!!! Yay!!! It was so fun. And it made Japan's national most watched news!! It was only a snip it but it was on there! So that was very cool, apparently nothing with religious relation gets on the news! So that was cool! If you want to see that little snip it it is on my face book page :) the awesomest thing about that small news clip is I understood all of the japanese on it as well!!! Yay! Well after the flash mob we went to Tateyama which is an hour south of our apartment!! And the flash,on was 2 hours north so it took us 2 hours to get there then 3 hours to get to tateyama and then another hour to get home! That was a lot of time on trains!!!! The last hour of the time on trains both me and Kondo fell asleep we tried talking to everyone around us and no one would talk to us so we sat there and accidentally passed out! I've never been so tired in my life!
For the few weeks before Christmas we had been buying little things for the other elders in our apartment and putting them in a stocking. So on Christmas we opened them and got all sorts of weird things like the other elders got some English language learning books from my Japanese companion. Or a pack of tim tams or weird Japanese candy. We also done a Japanese style christmas where we ate lots of chicken and had a cake haha :) it was a fun Christmas but not a white one I'm too south :(.
On the 26th there was fireworks were not sure why..... But there was some so that was kinda cool. We also went down to tateyama with Miyazaki kyodai! We were going to catch the train but we were at the chapel setting up a lesson on FaceBook and he was cleaning the chapel then he asked what we were doing today we said were going to tateyama he walks off comes back 5 minutes later and says okay let's go! We were like what..... Umm okay haha so we went to tateyama together met takashi which was awesome fun! We went to the beach (which by the way isn't breaking any rules) we played chicken with the ocean and its tiny waves then skimmed stones took some photos and then I took my shoes off and it was so great to feel the sand between my toes! 本当に お久しぶり! I miss that feeling! The beach might not be as good as perth but it was so nice. Then we taught an awesome lesson unfortunately he couldn't come to church but it was an awesome lesson! One of my favorite so far!
We also got to skype this week which was pretty cool! I skyled my family at home and chelsea at work :) was fun. In 3 months tabitha already looks older! Everyone else looked the same but that was really cool to be able to skype :) I have a love hate relationship with these iPads mostly good but sometimes they are too slow or do stupid things.
On Sunday it was the branch presidents last Sunday until she leaves to the MTC!!! Awww it was so adorable she gave her testimony and the stake president was here and we had a little party after church at the start we sung called to serve in japanese and it was amazing! So cute! I love this Ward they are all so amazing and sweet! All the primary kids wrote her a little letter each and gave It to her. I swear japanese kids are the cutest kids! Being a small Branch there is a unity you don't feel in other wards it's adorable and I love it. Japanese people are just the best! They are killing my racist side hahaha
Next week we have a weird week sort of like missionary holiday week cause it's New Years and that is massive in japan like really big!!! Everyone goes back to thier home towns and have massive parties that last days! So we have a day where we clean the apartment all day and can't dendo then the next day we read the Book of Mormon all day then the next day is my birthday and the whole mission is getting together for some big conference. So it's like a big break from dendo. Who said missionaries work 24/7/365 we only work 24/7/363 in Japan ;)
